Virtual Volunteer Opportunities

Mentor Mondays

Join us this summer for our Camp Good Sam Mentoring Mondays and be a part of a team that gives youth a safe place to read, learn, and have fun. Camp Good Sam is a literature-based program that addresses summer learning loss through hands-on activities that help youth build social skills and foster creativity. By engaging with our students, our mentors provide a demonstration of important character traits. Mentoring sessions can be as simple as sharing virtual book reading or being a career guest speaker.

  • Pre-recorded videos (each video counts as 2 volunteers hours), or
  • Requirements: must be at least 18 years of age and obtain a GED or high school diploma
  • Live conferencing on June 15, June 22, June 29, July 6, and July 13

1. Virtual Book Reader

Do you love to read? Great! Our virtual readers help us read sections of our exciting book. Read-a-long is an engaging way to foster youth love of reading and learning in the summer months.

Book themes: San Antonio: A Wrinkle in Time. Brownsville: Story Thieves

2. Virtual Career Guests Speaker

We would love to have you do a virtual career guest speaker presentation this summer. Does your profession somehow already tie in with our book theme? Come introduce your profession with a group of youth!

Senior Buddy

Our Senior Center program offers older adults opportunities to engage in activities that promote overall wellness and contribute to an increased quality of life and decrease social isolation among the elderly population. We would love to have a senior buddy who can engage with seniors in friendly conversation to decrease their isolation during COVID-19.

  • Dates and times are flexible with volunteers' schedules.
  • Willing to talk on the phone or write letters.
