Good Samaritan Community Services - Pharr

Good Samaritan Community Services - Pharr addresses the issues economically disadvantaged youth face living in the high-risk area of Pharr, Texas.  The goal of GSCS - Pharr is to assist rising 1st - 8th grade students in acquiring the life and academic skills necessary for personal success.  Built on nationally proven "Best Practices" and industry research, the GSCS - Pharr model assists youth by providing structured, age-appropriate services through four pillars:

1) Supporting Educational Achievement by involving youth in hands-on activities to build on concepts taught during the school day

2) Reducing Risk by engaging youth in lessons framed by the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets to promote important life skills and personal assets

3) Exploring College and Career Pathways by offering youth the opportunity to visit various colleges and universities, listening to guest speakers who are experts in their field, and career exploration

4)  Leadership Development opportunities to help youth learn the importance of community engagement and to develop leadership skills

These four pillars are reflected in all of GSCS - Pharr's programs: After School Program, Summer "Camp Good Sam" Program, Youth Case Management, and Texas Hill Country Camps.
