Educational Achievement

Tutoring

GSCS employs two educational tutors who work with youth on a daily basis to improve their grades and help with homework. Both of our tutors have backgrounds in education and use enrichment activities, games, and computer programs to engage participants in learning. Participants are referred to tutoring by their case manager if their report card grades do not meet school standards. Often, these youth do not have the resources in school or at home to help them stay on track academically. Tutoring from GSCS helps to fill that void.

College to Career

High school students enrolled in the afterschool program receive guidance and counseling about the college admissions process. Students participate in college visits, take SAT prep courses and get personalized information on financial aid. A dedicated College to Career Coordinator identifies the best schools and programs that match the goals and ambitions of GSCS students ensuring that each student has equal access to higher education. As these students will be the first in their families to attend college, the College to Career program acts as a critical resource and support system.
