Year-Round Volunteer Opportunities

Mentor - At least four (4) consecutive monthly visits at an hour each time
At Good Samaritan, we want to set the best example for our students. Mentoring provides them with a positive adult role model in their life. Through a program that focuses on the 40 Developmental Assets set by the Search Institute, we target areas where our students might need some extra attention. Students that show signs of risk are paired with a mentor. By engaging with our students, our mentors will provide a demonstration of these assets, like integrity and goal setting. Mentors must be at least 18 years of age and obtain a GED or high school diploma.

School Year: Mentoring dates vary. Please contact for more details.
Summer: Mentoring is available during our Camp Good Sam Program, June 10 - July 18 (Monday – Thursday)

Guest Reader - Ongoing
Be our Guest Reader for a day and help students learn valuable life lessons through the different themes explored in the Land of Stories book series. Enhance your resume by adding your volunteer work and the skills attained through this assignment: ability to engage youth, collaborate with students to make connections between material read and prior knowledge, increase student's vocabulary and enhance student's pronunciation. Guest Readers can volunteer their time and skills twice with only a valid ID. Those who wish to volunteer on a recurrent basis/more than twice must clear a background check and complete a free online 20-minute training from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
